I’d seen Miri’s shop in Carpinteria for years from the outside and always wondered what it was like inside. I’d pass the red sign outside and always think “that place looks cool”. Finally I looked it up online and saw that he was making some of the most beautiful ceramics I’d seen and I knew I wanted to photograph him.
Miri is fascinating, having spent most of his life in Italy and trained in Italian Couture, when he moved to Santa Barbara he discovered his love (and talent) in working with clay. As someone that works in 2D, I’m always fascinated seeing how other artists incorporate the third dimension into their art. Miri’s work is so sculptural and architectural and his use of color just makes you happy.
To see more of his work, check out his website, or even better - go visit him in person at his shop!
